the Mehraz project is situated on a land that measures 11 × 26 square meters. The project site faces south, and overlooks a green space with a green scenery that includes the mountains in the north as the background.
This building has been constructed in 7 floors, and each floor features a single housing unit. The basement includes the parking space, storage, and installations. The ground floor includes the entrance and parking. The 3-bedroom residential units are on floors 1 to 5.
The main issue regarding this project was the restrictions and obligations required by the municipality in order to provide sufficient parking space, and locate the stairs in the facade wall. By creating fractures and gaps in the pedestrian entrance, using a water display, green space, brick & wood materials, lighting, and constructing a canopy, we have been able to achieve visual diversity, create a sense of grandeur, and attract more attention to the entrance section of the building. Focusing on establishing an inviting sense at the entrance of the building and creating a more exponential surface enables the observers to take in a greater part of the façade at a fixed time and place. Creating this gap has enhanced the spatial quality of the stairs, owing to the fact that it provides an outside view, and makes use of natural light (in a linear way).
In the facade and common spaces of the building, we have tried to utilize a combination of conventional colors with Iranian architectural facades including glazed tiles, turquoise stone, and cream-colored bricks. Also, a green space has been created (in addition to responding to the green space of the park), in order to soften and liven the appearance of the facade and common spaces. Creating full and empty spaces, and using wood in the facade as linear elements, has been designed and implemented with the purpose of balancing the rigid volume of bricks, and create more balance. Furthermore, the principles of echo and acoustics have been considered n the details of the building (wood or fence, etc.).
Due to the location of the building, the design priority was to interact and communicate with the park space, which we have accomplished through creating large terraces that bring this sense into the depth of the house.
In the interior, in addition to have large terraces, a desirable harmony has been created by using bright colors in order to maintain the tranquility and peace of mind of the residents. Just as in the facade and commons of the building, we have used brick texture in the walls separating the public and private spaces of the house, the pattern of which is reminiscent of the pride and civility in Iranian architecture.
