Kéré Architecture and SOM Unveil New Images of the Future Las Vegas Museum of Art

موزه‌ی آینده‌ی هنر لاس‌وگاس (LVMA) نخستین موزه‌ی مستقل شهر خواهد بود که توسط فرانسیس کِره، معمار برنده‌ی جایزه‌ی پریتزکر، طراحی شده است. در پاییز ۲۰۲۴، شهر لاس‌وگاس در قالب یک مشارکت دولتی–خصوصی، دو هکتار زمین در پارک سمفونی و در مجاورت منطقه‌ی هنری مرکز شهر را به این موزه اختصاص داد. این پروژه با هدف خدمت‌رسانی به بیش از ۲٫۴ میلیون ساکن دائمی شهر ــ از جمله نزدیک به ۳۰۰ هزار دانش‌آموز و دانشجو در شعاع ۱۰ مایلی پارک ــ و نیز ده‌ها میلیون بازدیدکننده از سراسر جهان برنامه‌ریزی شده است. ساختمان ۶۰ هزار فوت مربعی موزه توسط Kéré Architecture طراحی شده و با همکاری Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) شکل گرفته است تا برای لاس‌وگاس «مکانی برای گردهمایی جامعه و نشانه‌ای برای جهان فرهنگ» فراهم آورد. افتتاح این موزه برای سال ۲۰۲۹ پیش‌بینی شده است. طراحی بنا از صحرای موهاوی و تاریخ معماری مدرنیستی لاس‌وگاس الهام می‌گیرد. نمای ساختمان با موزاییکی از سنگ‌های بومی پوشانده شده و طیفی از رنگ‌ها را بازتاب می‌دهد که یادآور کوه‌های ردراک پیرامون شهر هستند. سایبانی که فراتر از بام امتداد می‌یابد، ایوانی سایه‌دار برای میدان ورودی ایجاد می‌کند. پلکان بزرگ شاخص بنا که از پشت پنجره‌های سرتاسریِ طبقه‌ی همکف دیده می‌شود، هسته‌ی داخلی را به دره‌ای فضایی بدل می‌کند؛ جایی که بازدیدکنندگان از آن بالا می‌روند و به گالری‌هایی می‌رسند که در طبقه‌ی دوم معلق به نظر می‌آیند. از دیگر ویژگی‌ها می‌توان به گالری‌هایی با حال‌وهوای نیایشگاه اشاره کرد که از تأثیر پل ریور ویلیامز و کلیسای Guardian Angel Cathedral ــ پناهگاهی برای شهر لاس‌وگاس از سال ۱۹۶۳ ــ الهام گرفته‌اند، و همچنین به میدان مجسمه‌سازی روباز با کیفیتی همچون واحه. این بنا همچنین به‌طور معناداری از درختان بائوبابِ ساوانای آفریقا الهام گرفته است؛ عناصری که هم نقطه‌ی ارجاع طراحی و هم نخ مفهومی پروژه به‌شمار می‌آیند. ساختمان به‌مثابه استعاره‌ای از مکانی برای رشد و ریشه‌دواندن توصیف شده است. هدر هارمن، مدیر اجرایی موزه‌ی هنر لاس‌وگاس، این پروژه را «طراحی موزه‌ای جامعه‌محور با درکی دقیق از محیط طبیعی پیرامون» خوانده است. این طرح به‌سبب بازتاب تنوع لاس‌وگاس و ارجاع به طیفی از عناصر محلی ــ از معماری تا منظر ــ مورد توجه قرار گرفته است.

فرانسیس کِره در این‌باره می‌گوید:
«ما موزه‌ی هنر لاس‌وگاس را مکانی برای گردهمایی می‌بینیم؛ جایی که تمام جامعه بتواند خود را در آن بازشناسد و به ساختمانی افتخار کند که تاریخ و روح شهر و زیبایی طبیعت پیرامونش را بازتاب می‌دهد. لاس‌وگاس سرزمین شگفتی‌های معماری و چشم‌انداز جاودانه و الهام‌بخش کویر است. امیدواریم ساختمانی خوش‌آمدگو و درگیرکننده خلق کنیم که هر دو بُعد لاس‌وگاس را منعکس کند و حضور جهان طبیعی را به خط آسمان نمادین شهر بازگرداند.»

در پاییز ۲۰۲۶، موزه پیش از تکمیل ساختمان اصلی فعالیت خود را آغاز خواهد کرد. گالری و آزمایشگاه رسانه‌ی LVMA، فضایی چندمنظوره به مساحت ۱۵ هزار فوت مربع، در مکانی موقت نزدیک سایت اصلی موزه میزبان پیش‌نمایشی از برنامه‌ها خواهد بود. فعالیت‌های پیش‌بینی‌شده شامل نمایشگاه‌ها و برنامه‌های عمومی، فروشگاه خرده‌فروشی، فضای کار مشارکتی و کلاس‌های هنری با مربی برای کودکان، نوجوانان و خانواده‌ها است. مجموعه و برنامه‌های موزه با همکاری نزدیک موزه‌ی هنر شهرستان لس‌آنجلس (LACMA) غنا خواهد یافت. LVMA به‌عنوان نهادی مستقل، از طریق مشارکت‌های گوناگون امکان امانت‌گیری آثار، برپایی نمایشگاه‌ها و تطبیق برنامه‌های آموزشی LACMA را خواهد داشت و با تکیه بر تجربه‌ی حرفه‌ای این موزه، در سطحی بین‌المللی فعالیت خواهد کرد. Kéré Architecture به‌تازگی عملیات اجرایی پروژه‌ی موزه‌ای دیگری را در پلوشو در شمال‌شرق آلمان آغاز کرده است؛ بنایی از چوب و خاک رس که به عکاسی و هنر معاصر اختصاص دارد. در دیگر اخبار مرتبط با موزه‌های آینده، دفتر معماری سوئیسی Christ & Gantenbein برنده‌ی مسابقه‌ی بین‌المللی موزه‌ی جدید کیستفوس در نروژ شده است؛ خانه‌ی Fountainhead اثر فرانک لوید رایت توسط موزه‌ی هنر می‌سی‌سی‌پی خریداری شده تا به بخشی از مجموعه‌ی این موزه تبدیل شود و از طریق بازدیدهای هدایت‌شده در دسترس عموم قرار گیرد؛ و موزه‌ی لوکاسِ هنر روایت‌محور اثر ما یانسونگ اعلام کرده است که در ۲۲ سپتامبر ۲۰۲۶ به روی عموم گشوده خواهد شد و نهادی فرهنگی تازه به پارک اکسپوزیشن لس‌آنجلس می‌افزاید.

The future Las Vegas Museum of Art (LVMA) will be the city’s first stand-alone museum, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Francis Kéré. In fall 2024, the City of Las Vegas granted LVMA two acres of land in Symphony Park, neighboring the city’s downtown arts district, as part of a public-private partnership. The project is intended to serve the city’s more than 2.4 million year-round residents, including nearly 300,000 students living within a 10-mile radius of the park, as well as tens of millions of visitors from around the globe. The 60,000-square-foot building was designed by Kéré Architecture, which teamed up with Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) to provide Las Vegas with “a gathering place for community and a beacon for the cultural world,” and is scheduled to open in 2029. The design draws inspiration from the Mojave Desert and Las Vegas’s history of modernist architecture. Its façade features a mosaic of locally sourced stone, wrapping the building in hues that echo the surrounding Red Rock Mountains. A canopy extending beyond the roof is designed to provide a shaded “front porch” for the entry plaza. A signature grand staircase, visible through the entry level’s floor-to-ceiling windows, transforms the interior core into a canyon, from which visitors ascend toward galleries that appear to float on the second floor. Additional features include sanctuary-like galleries that reflect the influence of architect Paul Revere Williams’s Guardian Angel Cathedral, which has served as a refuge for Las Vegas since 1963, as well as an oasis-like outdoor sculpture plaza. The building also draws significant inspiration from the baobab trees of the African savanna, which serve as both a design touchpoint and a conceptual through line. As a metaphor for a site of growth and a place to put down roots, the building was described by Heather Harmon, Executive Director of the Las Vegas Museum of Art, as a “community-centered museum design with a keen understanding of the natural environment” surrounding the institution. The project was highlighted for embodying the diversity of Las Vegas by echoing a range of local references, from architecture to landscape.

In fall 2026, the museum will begin operations ahead of the building’s completion. The LVMA Gallery and Media Lab, a 15,000-square-foot, multi-use exhibition and public programming space, is set to host a preview of the museum’s offerings at a temporary location near the official LVMA site. Planned activities include exhibitions and public programs, a retail storefront, a collaborative workspace, and instructor-led art classes for children, young people, and families. The museum’s collection and programming will be enriched by a close relationship with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). As an independent institution, LVMA will benefit from several partnerships to borrow artworks, mount exhibitions, and adapt educational programs from LACMA, drawing on its professional expertise to operate at a high international level. Kéré Architecture recently broke ground on another museum project in Plüschow, northeast Germany, a wood-and-clay building dedicated to photography and contemporary art. In other news about future museums, Swiss architectural practice Christ & Gantenbein recently won the international competition for the new museum at Kistefos, Norway; Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fountainhead Residence was purchased by the Mississippi Museum of Art to become part of the museum’s facilities and be made available to the public through guided tours by reservation; and Ma Yansong’s Lucas Museum of Narrative Art has announced it will open to the public on September 22, 2026, adding a new cultural institution to Los Angeles’s Exposition Park.
