next door to the oldest historical building in Kashan, Jamee Mosque, a historic building has become host to 230 photographs of internationally well known photographer Steve McCurry. A world famous work of this man is the portrate of the Afgan young girl ,now more commonly known as the Mona Lisa of the East, taken in 1984 in refugies camp in Pishavar in Pakistan, which in 1985 was printed as front page of the National Geography magazine.
In the middle of busy hussle and bustle of the city of Kashan once one passes through the gray metal door one is welcomed by pure white and quietness of the house. Brick staircase invites us to the landing of an old Qajar home. This building is built in Qajar architecture style of lower and upper floor built around a central court yard known as “godal baghcheh”. It has now been restored and renovated with a mix of modern and traditional elements to house modern art of photography. The three rooms of the first floor with tall and uninterrupted glass windows have been dedicated to exhibiting the collections. In one corner of the yard an old fig tree rests in deep peace and tranquility. On lower level two rooms are dedicated to exhibition purpose, in addition there is a library and a media room facilities and equipments. The renovation and restoration of this building took ten months and it was opened to the overwhelming enthusiasme of public on 13th of June 2019.
